Woodberry Forest School – Hanes Hall

Woodberry Forest School is a private, all-male boarding school located on 1,200 acres in Woodberry Forest, Madison Country, Virginia, since its establishment in 1889. In 2017, the School conducted a Capital Improvement Plan Study, part of which was to deliver a master housing plan that would meet the School’s long-term needs. WAP was retained to renovate and re-purpose Hanes Hall from a library to student housing.

The completed program includes 61 beds, faculty units on each floor, and student commons area on the main level. The student commons includes a kitchen, flexible seating, and a state-of-the-art AV system to not only address the students’ on-going technology needs and to accommodate the School Board meetings.

The exterior of the building was restored to its former historic details with the addition of patio space for the main faculty residence on the ground floor.

The project was implemented through a design-build contract.
